Support Toni Jakovec's Cancer Recovery Journey

Toni Jakovec has long been a vibrant force in Greater Madison’s jazz community, known for her outgoing personality and tireless dedication. As a colleague and friend, I’ve seen firsthand how she stepped up to become the editor of our community’s free monthly jazz e-newsletter, produced neighborhood concerts, coordinated the UW-Madison Continuing Studies PLATO Jazz class, and wrote successful grant proposals that have supported local musicians, venues, and nonprofit jazz organizations. Her efforts have helped grow our audience and strengthen the foundation of jazz in our area. Toni’s story was even featured in the documentary short film, "Mondale Courting," https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAxEhWoZXjs, which beautifully captures her spirit and impact.

In addition to her commitment to the jazz community, Toni has been a familiar face and knowledgeable presence at the European market and tasting room, vomFASS, for the past 15 years. Fueling her interest in cooking and developing recipes, this employment underwrote her jazz volunteer work.

Recently, Toni was diagnosed with Stage 3 endometrial cancer. She has already undergone surgery and is preparing for several months of chemotherapy, which will continue into early October. While she is a real trooper, her journey is filled with uncertainty and anxiety about the outcome of her treatments. The physical and emotional toll is compounded by the loss of her income, as she is unable to work during this time.

We are raising funds to help Toni cover her living expenses while she focuses on her recovery. Although her health insurance will help with medical bills, there are many day-to-day costs and unexpected expenses that she will face. Supporting Toni now will allow her to concentrate on healing, knowing that her community stands behind her.
