dear friends , family and neighbors, i would like to take this time to ask for some much needed help. Tom and i are really struggling since his stroke... we have lost all of his medical insurance and snap foodstamp benefits and are trying not to lose the bedroom furniture we have to rent .. i know times are tough for everyone and i never thought i would be in this situation but if you can help in anyway with small donations or sharing our post so that maybe others can lend a helping hand we would greatly appreciate it.. may health and happiness always be at your side
.Monday, December 22, 2025, was just another ordinary day... until it wasn't. I went off to work, came home, and made dinner. About 30 mins or so later, Tom, my partner for over 25 years, said the worst possible thing I thought I would ever hear... "Leann, I think I'm gonna die." My heart dropped for a moment, and then the medical training I've had kicked in. Tom barely stood up before collapsing to the ground—pale, sweating, labored breathing, vomiting, and slipping in and out of consciousness. All the while, I waited for the ambulance to arrive, praying. It took the ambulance around 20 mins to arrive and get us to the nearest overcrowded ER. Tom remained under EMT supervision for about 2 hours until a hallway bed became available and more than just lab work testing could begin. The first initial tests were X-ray and CT scans that brought the worst news: Tom had probably had a stroke and that an MRI was needed to confirm and assess the damage. Unfortunately, it would have to wait until the next day because they didn't have an MRI team available that evening. He would be immediately admitted to the hospital and get the MRI as soon as possible.
Tom had the MRI on 12/23/2025, confirming that the entire left side of his brain was affected by the stroke and that a current brain bleed was their main concern. We spent almost 2 days in the ER waiting on a room upstairs, having evaluations for speech, occupational, and physical therapies, all of which were considered necessary for the recovery process. Tom spent 2 weeks in the hospital with various symptoms from the stroke, which included delusions, weakened muscle movements that made standing/walking unstable, and a lot of mental, emotional, and physical deficits that still affect him as of today. Tom was discharged on January 6, 2026, with the recommendations for a rehab facility discharge and/or in-home therapies. None of those things were able to be implemented due to "insufficient insurance," which has since been terminated, so it has been up to me to stay home from work and help as much as possible.
We have been struggling just to make ends meet, let alone afford new medical expenses necessary to help in a stroke victim's recovery, such as medications, a shower bench, and a grab bar for the bed, etc. If you can help offer support with a donation or even just sharing our story with others, it would be greatly appreciated. All donations will go towards our new monthly and medical expenses to help us recover from the unexpected journey we are currently experiencing.
