Hello everyone. On December 8th, my best friend (Melody) and her husband (Tom) were told the scariest news of their lives. After going into zoom care to check Tom for abdominal bloating and discomfort, they were told to go to the ER. That night, after hours of waiting and several tests done, they were told Tom has cancer. Several days later, a diagnosis came: Tom has Diffuse B Large Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL). He is so young. Their lives quickly changed and they ended up in the hospital for a week, beginning Chemo and a slew of medications.
Tom is a beautifully kind-hearted friend, husband, uncle, and son. He loves working on his truck, playing frisbee golf and soccer with his friends, and connecting with family/friends on video games in his free time. Over the years I've known him, he has dropped everything more than once to help me with any car troubles I've had or dog care I've needed. His selflessness and hard working personality makes him who he is. That's why this fast-paced life altering news has hit so hard and seems so unfair. Those who love him have watched his energy deplete and his body change. From new medications, managing a PICC line, and a whole new diet, Tom has faced this demon head on.
I have watched my best friend go from a wife to a full time caretaker over her husband-- helping track his caloric intake, managing his pain, and keeping him motivated when the impact of his diagnosis hits hard mentally. A full time role, and one she has taken on without complaint. Their love for one another is indescribable. His family and friends have been at his side, ready to help where they can and bring a smile to Tom's face.
I'm creating this to support Tom & Melody as all aspects of their life prior to the diagnosis have changed. As a young couple, no one could have prepared them for this situation. They will need help financially to cover medications, chemo treatments, doctors visits, new food regimens, and so, so much more. Christmas will look and feel different this year for them and their family. We are grateful for any support you can show to these two & please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as Tom continues to fight this!!
