Thomas Ramon Aguilar, aka Chale Brown, or for many of us, Tommy, has been an ever-present, legendary member of San Jose’s creative community for more than two decades. As an artist, curator, and DJ, Tommy has dedicated his life to fostering a vibrant, modern and progressive cultural scene for his hometown—presenting and promoting visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, and writers from around the world through Universal Grammar. His passion has touched and inspired so many of us of what is possible here in the South Bay. Beyond his creative work, Tommy is a devoted father and partner, always showing love for his family, friends and his roots.
On July 4, 2026, Tommy suffered a heart attack and will be having triple bypass surgery very soon. While this procedure thankfully will help him get back to being stronger and healthier than ever, it also will bring weeks, if not months of recovery and uncertainty. Without health insurance, Tommy and his family will struggle to cover hospital bills, medication, medical equipment, and everyday living expenses – all while missing gigs that provide needed income. The financial stress will be difficult for Tommy as he focuses on regaining his strength and being there for his loved ones.
Myself, along with so many of his dear friends and family, are asking for your support to help Tommy and his family through this challenging time. Donations will go directly toward medical costs, recovery needs, and supporting his partner Gaby and young daughter Amaru while Tommy heals. Your generosity will give Tommy the chance to return to his creative work and continue making a difference in the community he loves. Please consider helping Tommy and his family get back on their feet.
