Update from Bette:
January 14, 2026

Thank you. We wish there was a way to speak to each one of you individually. I can’t get through reading these names without tears of gratitude.

Most of you we know, and some we have never met… teachers, neighbors, classmates, family… and anonymous donors too. Prayers from hundreds of friends and loved ones—and again from people we have never met. Your generosity and support are overwhelming.

Most of all, we wish this had never happened.

The road to healing is not an easy one, but Tommy is home in Cambridge making daily progress. Your prayers sustain us, and your support helps ease the enormous financial costs of fighting this aggressive cancer for Tom.

2025 was consumed by months of infusions, followed by radiation, more chemotherapy, and two surgeries.

2026 will be a year of healing—a year to get Tommy back on his feet.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Update from Bette & Jim Wu:
January 1, 2026

Tommy began 2025 with a diagnosis that shocked us all to the core. We are stepping into this new year holding hope a little tighter and gratitude a little deeper.

Yesterday’s surgery was successful. The night that followed was long and restless, but healing has begun. Tom’s surgeon is encouraged by the results, and now we wait—trusting the process, leaning on hope, and taking each moment as it comes.

Cancer reaches far beyond the body. It steals comfort, time, and a sense of normalcy. It touches every part of life—family, friendships, work, and the quiet moments in between. Along the way, the cost of treatment and inability to work fully have added another layer of responsibility to an already heavy journey for Tommy. Cancer doesn't know that you have preexisting financial responsibilities. It just compounds them.

Tommy had no idea this GoFundMe page existed. When he learned about it today, he was overwhelmed and deeply moved by the love, kindness, and generosity shown by so many.

For his part, Tommy can't wait to get back on the tennis court and resume his normal life. He and our family are humbled beyond words and profoundly thankful. Your prayers throughout the year have carried and protected us. Please continue to pray. Thank you for supporting us when we have needed it most. ❤️

With gratitude,
Bette & Jim Wu

A note from the Wu sisters:
December 31, 8am

You never know how much you're going to need your family until something like this happens. This has been a very tough year for our brother Tommy. Our sweet, strong, incredible brother was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer a year ago at the age of 41.

It's been a year filled with aggressive chemo (Folfirinox), radiation, and most recently, surgery. He got through a major surgery in December, and we were excited to welcome him home for Christmas. Unfortunately, recovery was really difficult and due to complications he was re-hospitalized within a few days. It’s been so hard to watch him go through this.

We are prayerful and hopeful that Tommy will recover after another surgery this week. There is still a long road ahead for him, and this has been challenging for him to do his job as a tennis coach and pro. His work has been incredible, and we know he can’t wait to get back on the court. There's a lot of uncertainty with this diagnosis, and we keep our hope and prayers alive.

Many people have asked what they can do, and truthfully, what he needs most is support with prayers and also financially. Cancer is excruciatingly expensive, especially his particular type. Any funds contributed will go towards Tommy’s medical bills to help him avoid significant medical debt. The financial goal is to raise enough to cover his out-of-pocket medical expenses in 2026. Heartfelt thanks to the family, friends, and colleagues who have contributed.

Colorectal cancer is one of the fastest rising cancers in young adults, and watching someone you love go through this is life-changing. While research gives us hope for the future, the reality right now is incredibly tough. Any support—donations, shares, or kind words—means more than we can express. ❤️

We know Tommy is so strong, but this has been incredibly challenging. Thank you for your support!
