Meet Tomei, Our Brave 2-Year-Old Sweet Girl

Tomei is a sweet, playful, and loving domestic shorthair cat who has brought endless joy to our lives. She’s always been the heart of our home, full of energy and affection. Whether it’s curling up in the sun or on our laps, Tomei’s vibrant personality lights up every room she’s in.

Unfortunately, our world was turned upside down when Tomei was scheduled for a routine spaying procedure on November 27th, 2024. While under anesthesia, she suffered a severe and unexpected cardiac arrest that lasted for about 2-3 minutes. Her heart stopped beating, and she experienced hypoxic brain injury — a condition caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain.

Despite the odds, our little girl fought bravely and survived the cardiac arrest after being resuscitated with CPR. We are incredibly thankful to Guardian Veterinary Specialists for their exceptional 48-hour aftercare. However, her recovery is far from over.

She is currently facing challenges due to neurological damage, including difficulty with everyday functions (walking, eating, using her litter), uncoordinated movements, and signs of nystagmus (involuntary eye movements). Hypoxic brain injury carries the risk of permanent neurological damage, and without proper treatment, our baby is susceptible to blindness, seizures, or long-term mobility issues.

Although the road ahead is long, Tomei has shown subtle improvement each day. She is a fighter, and we are hopeful that with the right treatment, including physical therapy and ongoing veterinary care, she will regain her mobility and strength. However, the medical bills and unforeseeable future have been overwhelming, and we are reaching out for any help with our little girl's case.

Her current medical bills were about $3,520, but we are anticipating further costs if needed. We are committed to doing everything we can to give her the best chance at recovery. Our total goal is to raise $5,000 to help cover any medical expenses. Any amount, big or small, will help us provide Tomei with the care she desperately needs.
