Support Tom Obeid's Life-Saving Lung Transplant
Donation protected

Hello friends and possible participants in helping save a life! I know this may be in left field, but my good friend, Tom Obeid, may have the opportunity to get a double lung transplant at UCSF. After posting on Facebook, one of Tom's friends suggested that I create a GoFundMe page so that those who are at a distance can help in some way as well. So, here I am, doing this for the first time—lol.
A little about Tom for those of you that do not know him:
- He was born with a lung disease called Non-cystic Bronchiectasis & Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) that requires him to perform exhausting percussion and other lung therapies many times during the day in order to breathe. His sister had the same lung disease, and she died when she was just 28 years old. He is now 63, which is awesome, but his lungs are at the point where he needs a transplant.
- He is a highly creative and kind person who has accomplished a lot in his life despite his disabilities. Some of those endeavors include:
* Volunteering tutoring homeless children for School on Wheels. This is one of his personal favorites!
* Writing a screenplay and producing a trailer for it back in the 1980s, before the internet!
* Being an award-winning photographer with subjects promoting diversity and speaking out against racism
* Graduating culinary school and working as a private chef for a short time
* Most recently going back to school remotely and graduating with a master’s degree in Marriage Family Therapy
We want him to be able to continue his life’s journey, and he will be able to do so (we hope) with a new set of lungs from UCSF! He has started the process of getting on the transplant list with UCSF by attending several Zoom meetings, and traveling up to UCSF from Ventura for his first in-person appointments. Fortunately, with your donations, we were able to pay for this first critical in-person trip! Now he is slated to come back up to UCSF between April 23-26 for his second set of in-person appointments! Please donate if you can and share this with others!
CALL TO ACTION!
- It's definitely going to take a village, as they say, to help Tom have a successful 2nd trip, as well as a successful double lung transplant in hopefully the not-too-distant future. Your donation can greatly assist in attaining this life-saving goal!
Thank you in advance for your consideration and assistance!
