Hi everyone, my name is Nene, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart but a hopeful spirit for my 15-month-old son, Tokyo.
On Friday, April 10th, I lived through every mother’s worst nightmare. I walked into the room to find Tokyo unconscious and not breathing. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, placed on oxygen, and stabilized so he could be transported to another hospital that had better treatment.
While the doctors were working to save his life, I received news that shook me to my core, Tokyo was born with a hole in his heart.
This was Tokyo’s second time being admitted to the hospital for a respiratory crisis. The first being when he was only six weeks old. I took him to the hospital and his pediatrician numerous times with the exact same concerns. I felt like I wasn't being heard, and my son's symptoms were never taken seriously. We were never told about his heart condition. Had I known, I would have had him seeing a cardiologist from day one to ensure he was getting the specialized care he deserved.
Because this went undiagnosed, Tokyo suffered from Acute Hypoxic Respiratory Failure. It breaks my heart to feel that he was neglected by the very medical field we trusted to keep him safe.
How You Can Help
Tokyo was discharged on Tuesday, April 14th, and we are so grateful to have him home. However, his road to recovery requires constant monitoring to ensure this never happens again. Doctors have recommended several essential medical items to keep him safe, including:
• An Owlet Dream Sock (to monitor his heart rate and oxygen levels)
• A hospital-grade nasal aspirator
• and etc
I have started this GoFundMe for anyone who feels moved to help. Every single dollar will go directly toward Tokyo’s medical needs and the equipment necessary to keep him breathing safely.
If you aren't able to donate, please keep us in your prayers as we process this news and focus on Tokyo's healing. We appreciate every bit of love, support, and kindness sent our way.
Thank you for being part of Tokyo’s village.❤️
