One of my closest friends, Todd, is in need of help. We met in our twenties, and he has been an incredible mentor, advisor, human, and friend to me since then. He has truly been a lifeline to me in the past at some of my lowest points, and has shown up for his community time and time again. It is my hope we can do some of the same for him.

Todd is 63 years old and was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Previously, his partner, Michael, cared for Todd and was able to help him navigate the new and significant challenges he was faced with. Unfortunately Michael passed away, leaving Todd to reorient his life in a major way for the second time. Initially, Todd was able to get by with a caregiving service coming in a few days out of the week until he recently lost the ability to walk.

Now, Todd requires a caregiver seven days a week to maintain a basic quality of life. He has been dependent on others recently (and will be indefinitely) to help him with many daily tasks that many of us take for granted: dressing, bathing, going to the bathroom, household chores, and preparing meals.

Todd is unable to work and dependent on Social Security as his primary source of income. Unfortunately, he earns just enough money to disqualify him for in-home supportive services, so his caregiving costs are fully out-of-pocket.

My goal and my hope for my friend Todd is to raise enough money to help him care for himself.
