Support Todd's Battle Against Aplastic Anemia

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

My name is Tim Murphy, Todd's cousin, and I’m reaching out on Todd's behalf. Anyone who has met Todd knows him to be a devoted father, a Navy veteran, and a die-hard Phillies fan. If you happened to see the viral meme of him from the 2022 World Series, you know just how much energy and joy he brings to everyone around him. Unfortunately, Todd has a very difficult battle ahead and needs all of the support we can give hiim.

In May, Todd went in for a routine physical that turned out to be anything but routine. After a series of lab tests, he was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a rare and serious blood disorder. Essentially, his immune system is attacking his bone marrow, preventing his body from producing the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets he needs to survive. He also has PNH, a condition where his red blood cells are missing an important protein, which makes them break down faster than they should.

Without healthy blood cells, his body can’t fight infection, heal from injuries, or even carry oxygen efficiently. Tasks that most of us take for granted—like walking to the mailbox or even getting a small cut are now serious challenges and becoming increasingly difficult.. In addition, he also has a loving wife, Angela, and two beautiful daughters, Evie and Belle that are going through this battle with him.

My cousin has always been a fighter. A proud Navy veteran, his time spent serving taught him resilience, determination, and the will to overcome challenges—all of which we have no doubt will be put to use in the days ahead.

The doctors have told him that the only way forward is a bone marrow transplant. However, this is still a work in progress—he has not yet had the transplant and may need to undergo a search to find a matching donor. This process alone is incredibly time-consuming, and as he goes through the tests, treatments, and waiting period, his condition is not improving.

This transplant will require chemotherapy and months of recovery, but it comes with unforeseen medical costs that are adding up fast. These costs add up quickly and can put a lot of strain on families. Any support that tour communities' can provide will go a long way in helping to ease these financial pressures. All funds donated will help with the costs of:

Chemotherapy before the transplant and post-transplant treatments come with significant costs.

Just last month, he had to pay out of pocket for a brain MRV as part of his medical clearance process.

There are ongoing medications, hospital stays, and follow-up appointments that will be required for 3-6 months as he recovers from the transplant.

The cost of everyday essentials—groceries, utilities, mortgage, car payments—are all becoming harder to manage while his family’s income will be drastically reduced.

Childcare for Evie and Belle, especially during his hospital stays and recovery period. Todd will be in the hospital for at least a month and then at home recovering for 3-6 months, and Angela will need help caring for their two daughters while she continues to support him. Between medical visits, hospital stays, and the unpredictability of his condition, childcare will be a significant ongoing expense.

As you can imagine, all of this has placed an overwhelming strain on the family.

Unexpected medical costs, out-of-pocket bills, childcare, and everyday living expenses like food, housing, and utilities. This will give Angela and Todd the breathing room they need to focus on his recovery and spend more time as a family without the added stress of how to make ends meet.

Growing up next door to Todd, I can truly attest to the fact that he has’ always been the first to offer kindness. Whether it was getting an extra ticket to the Phils so that his little cousin could be included, letting that little cousin win in air-hockey or going out of his way on a Friday night to give a ride to whatever sport they were playing on that particular day, he's always been there to support others, and I have no doubt that many of you reading this share similar memories of how he's been there for you in the past.

There is certainly a long road ahead, but we know he'll get through this, we just can't let him do it alone.

As a family, we really can't begin to explain how much your support means to us.

Thanks again,
Tim Murphy
