Matt Samonek. To know him is to love him. To love him is to remember him.
On March 1, 1965, Matt was born in Palo Alto, California to the Samonek family. He walked this earth for 59 years, embracing various chapters that made him the man we all know, love, and cherish. In every phase of his life, he made a number of friends and even found a woman who loved him enough to spend her whole life with him. He and his wife, Tobi, were married for 33 years, and their story is one for the books. They even chose to make a family of their own with three kids- Amber, Andrew, and Emma.
Matt was a University of Texas alum, and he loved nothing more than being a Longhorn. If you want to talk about a "Texas Fight" mentality, you should look directly at Matt and see the pinnacle of what that truly means. For 5 years, Matt struggled with a very rare form of Parkinson's called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. On August 27, 2024, he lost his fight with PSP, but before that day he fought like no one else to live his life to the full.
Matt leaves behind his wife, Tobi, who has stuck by his side through every up and down with this disease. For the last couple of years, she has been his full-time caregiver and immediate support, all while balancing a full-time job and her family life. In attempting to give him a resting place and gather his favorite people to celebrate his life, she has many expenses to cover. This donation page is to assist Tobi with the costs for cremation, burial, and celebration of life efforts. If you are able to give, any dollar amount will help her in honoring Matt in a way that he would've enjoyed.
On behalf of Tobi and her kids, we thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and love. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
