After a devastating change in my life’s circumstances I wanted to stay living in the community that I had grown to know and love. With the little bit of money left

I searched for somewhere to live. Then I found a cottage. It needed a lot of work.

I put every cent I had into it. The electrical wires dangled from the ceiling. The countertops had been ripped out, along with all the appliances and doors. Together with a tight budget, a handyman and a lot of hard work we made it habitable.

One afternoon I saw my neighbor getting out of his car. I went over to introduce myself. He responded by not sharing his name but asking “how much did you get it for?” Then he strode off. On the following day there was a letter in my mailbox telling me that I would need his permission to repair the side of my house that faced his side.

A survey had never been carried out regarding the property line. He claimed that he owned all the land right up to the wall of my home.

So followed eleven torturous years. I complied with all his demands. In return, he would harass and run off my contractors. Then last month on November 8th he cut off my downspouts and ripped out my drainage pipes. He then proceeded to close off access to the back of my house for repairs by attaching a fence on to my home and garage.

No one would help me. I called the police. I called the City of Mill Valley.

I contacted a realtor. Thinking I should sell and get away from this toxic situation. The realtor said you can’t. We’d have to disclose your awful neighbor. It would be difficult to sell.

The next time it rains the downstairs of my home will be flooded. I’m dependent on being able to rent out that part of the house on Airbnb for income.

I sought the advice of a lawyer who sent my neighbor a letter requesting that he correct all the damage he had done. He ignored it. He‘s a bully.

I desperately need funding. I already owe my lawyer $4,500 in fees. Plus I will have the cost of replacing the drainage system that he destroyed in order to avoid devastating damage to my home.
