This past weekend, one of the most unique characters that has ever trotted the globe was tragically taken before his time. Sadly, Derek Bell passed away on Saturday afternoon on Jeju Island, South Korea. Derek left an impression on every person that he came in contact with. Whether it was from one of his well rehearsed jokes, or his infectious bellowing laugh, he was someone that always stood out. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends in Canada, his beloved partner Haejong, the Seoul ball hockey community and everyone who knew him in South Korea.

We have set up this page in hopes of offsetting the enormous cost associated with transferring Derek back to P.E.I. to be laid to rest in his homeland. In a situation like this, no donation is too big or too small and every little bit helps. We know that his family is dealing with immense pain right now and we felt that if we could help out in any way possible, it’s the least we can do.

Update: Nov 20th 2020. I am posting these updates because GFM has requested that we do so.

My name is Michael Kaufman and this campaign was started with Zack Wilson. Were are close friends of Derek's and also board members in the ball hockey league he played in in Seoul.

Derek's family has requested that half of the campaign go to them to aid in the costs of returning Derek to PEI. The other half will go to his partner whom he lived with, here in Seoul.

I will be personally handling the withdraw of the funds and transferring them to both parties from my Canadian bank account. This has been approved by Derek's family and they do not need to be a beneficiary.
