If you know Courtney, you know she is the most selfless human. While this word is used to describe many people, no one deserves this title more than her. I am always in awe of her thoughtfulness and selflessness, even when she has the weight of the world on her shoulders; weight that would break even the strongest warriors. Please take a moment to read her story:

Hi friends,

In the middle of 2023, I suddenly found myself a single mom to my three wonderful kiddos. As some of you know, my sons have ongoing special needs as well as medical complexities. I’ve been caring for and providing for them on my own for almost three years now, but I’ve reached a point where I need some help from my friends.

I now have full legal and physical custody of my boys, with no communication or support — financial or otherwise — from their father. After nearly 15 years of marriage, he suddenly announced he no longer wanted to be married and left to live with a new girlfriend. He has since quit his job to avoid paying child support. For the last year, I’ve been in the process of filing a claim with the VA, as he continues to claim all of us and receives substantial benefits. I’ve also been dealing with CPS and the courts for almost three years now due to the things he has done. My boys are in frequent, intense therapy to work through their trauma, and my oldest son has had five surgeries since he left.

I work full-time from home due to my son’s ongoing medical complexities. I provide his necessary medical interventions and take him to numerous daily appointments. Some of his medical conditions include Arnold-Chiari malformation, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, autism, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and severe asthma.

I am doing this on my own, something I never thought I could do, and it’s so incredibly difficult. But, thankfully, we are all safe and happy. I never thought I’d need to ask for help, but we are stretched so thin that I am humbly reaching out.
