Hi fellow animal lovers. On 10/19 we rescued a kitten with a smushed paw, only to find 3 more kittens from that litter, along with another 3 other kittens from another litter. My friend lives in East New York, where she has been feeding a whole colony by herself. Once we saw the second round of kittens, we immediately started to notice that none of the 20 or so adult cats were fixed. This means that they are reproducing rapidly. Did you know, cats can have up to 5 litters a year? Also, once giving birth, a cat can literally get pregnant two weeks after. Insane. We are working with a trapper and she has caught 5 adult cats, which is about 100-175$ per cat. They are getting trapped, fixed, and released back into the yard. TNR. Just yesterday, 10/28, we found ANOTHER litter of kittens. This is not what we were looking for or hoping for but it’s clear to us that this situation is dire and in need of help. Currently everything is out of my pocket for TNR. A lovely rescue NYSCR is helping us with the kittens to get vetted and adopted because we do not have the means to do so. Our job is to just keep fostering, feeding, and trapping. We need funds for TNR but also for cat food and for materials to build shelters as it is getting cold soon. Any help is appreciated. Nothing is too small when it comes to these little animals who need our help. Another not so fun fact: raccoons and rats will eat the babies hence the urgency of trying to get them before they do.
