It’s the one call no one ever wants to receive. Just a little over a month ago, we found out that my sister has stage 4 colon cancer. This was such a shock for our entire family. My sister, Tisha, is 48yrs old and like most of us live paycheck to paycheck. She helps run a small bar/restaurant and works in a factory. We are all from average working class families and don’t have a ton of savings for those unexpected expenses. Tisha is the glue of our family. She is so positive and has a smile that will light up a room. She is the type that has always put everyone else first before her own needs. She isn’t just my older sister, she has also been a second mom to me. She has one son, Miko, who is her pride and joy.

As I’m sure you know, cancer comes with a lot of expenses, stress and lots of hurdles to overcome. Tisha is someone who won’t ask for help but we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Her funds are dwindling as she has had to take FMLA and can’t work while going through chemotherapy. Asking for help is one of the hardest things for us to do but any help would make a world of difference.

She is currently on an intense chemotherapy regimen and we are hopeful that it will help her overcome this obstacle. She has a great team of doctors and her family standing beside her during this fight. She is a strong and determined woman and is ready to fight this diagnosis.
