Help Tim Fight Colorectal Cancer and Access Lifesaving Medication
Hi, my name is Tim Maloney. I’m currently battling Colorectal Cancer, and I’m reaching out for help during one of the most difficult times of my life.
Since I was 19, I’ve been living with severe Crohn’s disease. Over the years, I’ve undergone three major surgeries and lost over half of my intestinal tract—I now have only 16 feet of intestines compared to the average 33. After my last surgery, I was blessed to hear my Crohn’s had gone into remission. I’ve always worked hard to manage my health, following a strict diet and staying vigilant about my condition.
Because of my shortened digestive system, absorbing nutrients has been a constant struggle. After trying multiple treatments, my GI doctor finally prescribed Opium Tincture, an old but effective medication that slows down the digestive system. It helped me feel “normal” again—reducing severe diarrhea and allowing my body to retain much-needed nutrients. I was on this medication for six years.
Unfortunately, at the beginning of this year, I had to change insurance providers—from United Healthcare to Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). BCBS denied coverage for the Opium Tincture, and I was forced to stop taking the one medicine that truly worked for me. The impact has been devastating.
Now, on top of managing Crohn’s, I’m fighting cancer. Chemotherapy has brought back severe diarrhea, making my health spiral even further. Since stopping the medication, I’ve lost over 20 pounds—which, for someone already slender, is dangerous.
I’ve tried every avenue, including patient discount programs, but the out-of-pocket cost is still $752 a month—something I simply cannot afford right now. Meanwhile, my cancer treatment has already cost the insurance company over $100,000, and that number could climb to $300K–$500K before it's over. And yet, they’re refusing to cover a medication that costs under $800 a month. It’s frustrating and heartbreaking.
I’m asking for your help to afford this critical medication during my cancer treatment and recovery. Every dollar will go directly toward paying for the medicine that helps me stay nourished, maintain weight, and continue fighting this disease with strength.
The goal amount reflects the total cost for one full year of treatment.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, sharing, and supporting me in any way you can.
