Support Tim's Battle Against Glioblastoma
Donation protected
Over the last few years Tim has fought to overcome prostate and brain cancers through various treatments. Though the treatments were effective for a time, a routine follow-up MRI on December 31st showed that a new larger tumor had grown in the same area of his right temporal lobe.
This particular form of brain cancer is Glioblastoma multiforme (or GBM for short). In general, it is characterized by aggressive unpredictable growth and unfortunately this tumor follows that pattern. In the weeks that followed, Tim and Cole pursued consults, advice, and medical input from multiple providers across the country searching for the best way to treat this new growth of cancer. This along with some additional symptoms affecting Tim’s peripheral vision in his left eye led them to a surgery on Monday, February 24th for a craniotomy and tumor resection (brain surgery with tumor removal).
This surgery went as well as could be expected. The surgeon reported being able to remove about 90% of the tumor, but some of the remnants of the tumor were not able to be surgically removed due to the increased risk of damaging peripheral brain tissue. While the immediate risk has been temporarily decreased by this surgical intervention, a new treatment plan for follow-up is needed.
Traditional standard of care for GBM is limited with no long-term improvements. GBM is currently treatable but not curable. Because of this, Tim and Cole have opted to pursue alternative treatment that could offer a potentially more positive outcome.
Unfortunately, the out-of-pocket cost they paid in previous treatment rounds have exhausted their personal finances. We are now looking to friends and family to come alongside and support this new effort to fight this recurrence of tumor growth and advancing GBM.
Tim has just started this treatment and will continue for the recommended 8 months and will cost an estimated $200,000. They hope to do the full 8 months but can only continue for as long as the funds allow. Please consider joining Tim, Cole, and their family in supporting this next round of treatment.
With Gratitude.
