On what was meant to be a joyful Homecoming weekend at James Madison University, our dear friend Tim Healey, (who just turned 23), suffered a devastating accident that resulted in a severe head and spinal injury. Tim was immediately airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he spent two weeks in the Trauma ICU following extensive and complex surgery.

While the surgical team was able to stabilize Tim, his recovery journey is only just beginning.

As of November 5, Tim was airlifted to Atlanta, Georgia, to begin rehabilitation as he currently requires mechanical ventilation and faces a long road of rehabilitation and therapy to regain movement and independence in his lower body.

Tim is a bright, kind, and energetic young man who brings light and laughter wherever he goes. His strength and determination have already inspired everyone around him — friends, classmates, and his entire JMU community.

Even though Tim has health insurance, the out-of-pocket medical expenses, travel costs, rehabilitation equipment, and long-term care needs will be significant. As parents of Tim’s close friends, we’ve come together to help ease this financial burden on his family so they can focus on what matters most — supporting Tim’s healing and recovery.
