Support Maurice ("Tim") Casey's Recovery Journey

Donation protected
Our dear colleague and friend Maurice (aka Tim) was mysteriously hospitalized in March of this year with symptoms that perplexed many doctors. Soon after, he became paralyzed from the sternum down with the root cause unknown. Frustration grew over the ensuing months as doctors opined with different theories, eventually to find that Tim’s autoimmune system was attacking itself and damaging his spinal cord, likely causing the paralysis.

After months of struggle and many, many hospitals and doctors, our friend Tim has now been diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis-Optic Syndrome. Transverse myelitis is a characteristic feature of Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), an autoimmune disease that primarily affects the optic nerves and spinal cord. In NMO, transverse myelitis is characterized by inflammation of the spinal cord, causing damage to the myelin sheath and leading to a lesion that often extends along several vertebral segments. Tim has retained his sight, but the spinal cord damage is significant.

What does this mean? It means Tim has been hospitalized or in skilled ($$$) nursing homes since March. Diane and their children have been amazing, keeping the “lights on” and are busting it between their support in medical meetings, doctors, the business, their horses, and dogs. Insurance has long stopped covering the care, and we all can imagine the costs of skilled in-patient facilities. (It’s thousands a day). The family is scrambling to shore up the money for these bills, however they are out of funds on hand.

Please do what you can to assist the Casey family—we all know they would never ask for help—so we have set this up on their behalf for Diane to receive 100% of the contributions for medical bills. We can only hope when the chips are down, our friends and colleagues would be there for us. Practicing veterinary medicine is not only Tim’s love but the family’s main source of income. That income source is paused until Tim’s on the other side of all this. Please look in your hearts to help the Caseys dig out of this medical nightmare by easing the burden of the bills. Bless you and please share.

As for me, I'm just a family friend and long-time client of the wonderful Casey family. I met Dr. Casey as my vet, chiro, and acupuncturist in 1999; since then, he's become an amazing asset to the horse world and a great friend, as he is to so many in the area. He has always been there for me and his clients, no matter what time of day or night. We all know when he arrives, he will not only help our horses or dogs, but we’re in for a hilarious and entertaining conversation while he works. Most of all, Tim is an amazing human that so many of us have come to love. He deserves the chance and support to make a full recovery.

Tim's beautiful and caring wife, Diane Casey, is linked to receive and administer all donations through this fund.
