Hello, my name is Emma. Not even a year ago, I adopted an elderly cat from a shelter that didn’t treat their animals very kindly. On a day they were giving animals away for free to make more room, I asked them about their oldest cat. This is when I first saw my cat, Tiger. He was so skinny and fragile-looking, maybe the worst-off looking cat out of the whole bunch, and they told me he was 13 years old. I knew I wanted to take him and give him a better life as soon as I saw him.
He has been with me for nearly 9 months has gained weight and become much happier, but just a few days ago, something awful happened to him. My stepdad tripped over the lower bar of a baby gate we recently had to install to keep my nephew from exploring in more “unsafe” parts of the house. As he was tripping and losing his footing, Tiger was trying to dart through the same baby gate, and my stepdad accidentally stepped right onto one of Tiger's back legs, breaking it in such a way that the vet recommended we amputate it in order for Tiger to get his full quality of life back. They also said that even if we did cast his leg, since Tiger was so old, it might not heal the right way, and he’d have a slower recovery time than most cats. They said he might have to spend 3-6 months in a little crate to lessen the chances of his leg healing wrongly, and even then, it might not heal right due to how it has broken.
My family and I do not have the funds to get Tiger's leg amputation, but we did scrape up the money to get him some painkillers for now. So, I’m asking for any support I can get to hopefully raise enough money for his surgery. My stepdad feels awful, and I am currently beside Tiger all day and night, trying to help him stay clean and as comfortable as I can. Though he is an old cat, he is otherwise very healthy despite his injury and truly deserves to live the rest of his life as comfortably as possible. Please consider donating, giving any advice, or just sharing this fundraiser with anyone. No matter how small the amount you donate or how many people you share this with, it’ll help me so much more than you know.
he is camping out in my clothes hamper that I have stored in my closet, avoiding most things and I have his food, water, and litter box all moved close to where he’s decided to hide and stay for now.. I have to help me get into the litter box and most times he can’t stand or sit well enough to use the bathroom as well as he use to, I have been cleaning him and grooming him as much as I can without further bothering his broken leg.. any advice about how to possibly help his bathroom situation would be appreciated greatly I hate seeing him so helpless..
