Tiffany's Treasures Refurbished & Resale Store since 2015
Tiffany's Treasures is a Vintage Antique Store. We sell items from refurbished furniture, home decor, die cast cars, kitchenware, collectibles, books, signs, vinyl records, and so much more. We take great pride in finding new homes for our Treasures because after all, "with a little TLC….. everything deserves a second chance!"
We also believe that little things mean a lot, which is why I started a small program called "Blessings at Tiffany's Treasures". It's our way of saying thank you to our community by providing household items such as toiletries, cleaning products, laundry supplies, paper products, home goods, clothing, warm winter coats, hats, gloves, blankets, etc., or even just a hug.
Our Blessings program has helped many people in our community. In fact, I was presented with a Pay It Forward Award back in 2019 from WQAD and Ascentra Credit Union. And then in 2020, I was nominated for a Jefferson Award in the Quad Cities and surrounding area for multiplying good.
On Friday July 11, 2025, our store was impacted by the tail end of an EF2 Tornado Storm causing a waterfall from the street and intersection next to us, down into our backyard, forming a giant lake (probably 6ft deep), surrounding the lower half of our store. The water came up just under our windows. Halfway up the back storm door I've always disliked, until now. Instead of having just under 2ft of water in our lower level, we could have ended up with 5-6ft, so I think it's safe to say I love that door now!
During the flood, I reached out to our Facebook Live community asking for advice and any assistance or help they could offer. And they responded! From tips to shutting off the breaker, that I never would have thought of, to showing up with water pumps, fans, dehumidifiers, brooms, squeegees, and good old labor getting things up and out of the water to higher ground, and dumping 5 gallon buckets of water out of our store over the retaining wall out to the newly formed lake in our back yard. 8 hours later, the standing water was outside where it belonged.
Unfortunately by then, the damage was already done. We lost almost everything that was under the first foot of water including all the toiletries and cleaning supplies we had on hand and available as part of our Blessings to share with our community. We lost blankets, coats, and so much more that we have been saving for our giveaway this winter. In addition to our blessings, we were unable to salvage a variety of treasures including vintage/antique books and yearbooks, some electronics, small vintage kitchen appliances, vintage board games and puzzles, several pieces of vintage/antique furniture, lots of our supplies we use daily to run our business, as well as almost all our display shelves, and so much more!
I filed a claim with our insurance to cover our lost items, all the expenses we will have, as well as all the time it's going to take before we can open back up for normal business again. I received the following denial letter:
“The purpose of this letter is to advise you that as a result of our investigation, we are unable to provide you with coverage based on the following provisions of your policy:
A. Coverage
We will pay for direct physical loss of or damage to Covered Property at the premises described in the Declarations caused by or resulting from any Covered Cause of Loss.
B. Exclusions
1. We will not pay for loss or damage caused directly or indirectly by any of the following. Such loss or damage is excluded regardless of any other cause or event that contributes concurrently or in any sequence to the loss. These exclusions apply whether or not the loss event results in widespread damage or affects a substantial area.
g. Water
(1) Flood, surface water, waves (including tidal wave and tsunami), tides, tidal water, overflow of any body of water, or spray from any of these, all whether or not driven by wind (including storm surge);
(2) Mudslide or mudflow;
(3) Water that backs up or overflows or is otherwise discharged from a sewer, drain, sump, sump pump or related equipment;
(4) Water under the ground surface pressing on, or flowing or seeping through:
(a) Foundations, walls, floors or paved surfaces;
(b) Basements, whether paved or not; or
(c) Doors, windows or other openings; or
(5) Waterborne material carried or otherwise moved by any of the water referred to in Paragraph (1), (3) ог (4), or material carried or otherwise moved by mudslide or mudflow.
This exclusion applies regardless of whether any of the above, in Paragraphs (1) through (5), is caused by an act of nature or is otherwise caused. An example of a situation to which this exclusion applies is the situation where a dam, levee, seawall or other boundary or containment system fails in whole or in part, for any reason, to contain the water.
But if any of the above, in Paragraphs (1) through (5), results in fire, explosion or sprinkler leakage, we will pay for the loss or damage caused by that fire, explosion or sprinkler leakage.
Based on our investigation, the damages to your property are from flood and surface water and water under the ground surface pressing on, or flowing or seeping through foundations, walls, floors or paved surfaces, basements, doors, windows or other openings. Therefore the above exclusion applies and we are respectfully denying coverage for the damage to your property.
By advising you of these reasons for denial, we do not intend to waive the right to rely on other reasons that may become apparent at a later date. If you believe there are facts we have not considered that would allow us to provide coverage, please contact me immediately.
I regret that we are not able to be of more assistance to you.”
So with that all being said, with a humble and courageous heart, I am reaching out to you for help. Something I am not very good at doing. But I know it's needed. Not just for me and our store, but for our community and all the blessings we have to offer and share.
While I've had a rollercoaster of emotions during all of this. I'm probably on step 42 of the grief process. Oh wait, isn't there only 7 steps!!?? I'm going to say that it's my upbringing and past experiences that made me an overachiever in that area LOL.
Prior to opening Tiffany's Treasures, I joined the Iowa Army National Guard in 1993 (during my Senior Year in High School) as an Automated Logistics Specialist (Supply). After a back injury and having surgery, I was given an early medical retirement in 2010.
While serving in the Army National Guard, I was a 911 Dispatcher for 9 years in Davenport. Towards the end of my dispatching career, I went back to school for business. I then went to manage a Financial Planning Office, where I was the Chief Compliance Officer for 8 years.
During all those years, I always had side jobs along the way from bartending to working at Victoria's Secret to participating and hosting expo events, craft shows, flea markets, and garage sales. I always had a passion for events, so nearing the age of 40, I knew I had to give Tiffany's Treasures a try. And here I am coming up on my 10 year anniversary on October 1st, still doing what I love to do each and every day!
But wait. I have to acknowledge my Husband Josh. We met our Sophomore year in High School during a Habitat for Humanity mission trip, on a rooftop in Loveland, CO. We just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary this past January. He's been by my side every step of the way, from being the best Army Husband he could possibly be, to always supporting me with every crazy thing I wanted to try or get my hands into, to now being my full time sidekick at Tiffany's Treasures!
In addition to my Husband, our family, our friends, and this community have always been the best support team I could ever ask for. I don't know where I would be without them lending a hand, an ear, or even a shoulder when I needed it. I truly am blessed to be part of a community that truly cares and looks out for one another!
