Tibetan Youth Sports Empowerment Fund
Donation protected
Tibetan youth across Australia are excitedly preparing to play in the community-organised sports tournament – the “Tibetan Unity Cup” – over Easter in Canberra.
The event is entirely organised by community volunteers and relies on donations to make it possible. We are seeking donations to help fund major costs such as hiring soccer fields and basketball courts, fees for match officials, and other expenses to ensure a safe and successful tournament.
Tibetans will represent their local communities from NSW, QLD, VIC and the ACT to play soccer and basketball in men’s and women’s tournaments.
Sport has been a key part of empowering Tibetan refugees and integrating them in their new communities, who have lost so much and sometimes struggle with a sense of belonging. The tournament provides an opportunity for young Tibetans and newly arrived Tibetan refugees across Australia to come together to play sport and build self-esteem and social networks.
At this year’s Unity Cup, the Canberra Tibetan Community will provide meals and refreshments for players and volunteers and transport to and from venues. The Canberra Tibetan Community will volunteer to assist with the running of the tournament. But we need your help to fund major costs like venue hire to make the event possible.
Donors are invited to attend the tournament to watch a match or join the opening or closing ceremonies. Please be in touch with the Canberra Tibetan Community President if you would like more event information.
Thank you for your generous support!
