hi all ~
my name is tia. you may know me from many front facing jobs as a sd native, on the dance floor , at shows, from @nomoremarkets, and other community things.
to preface, i'm okay and recovering! i’m asking for some financial help after going to the ER unexpectedly. this was my first major hospital visit and surgery. i've never had any health issues so this all happened super fast. i don't want to stress while recovering nor push myself to return to work prematurely.
i went to urgent care initially, expecting to be in and out no biggie but ended up spending a few days in the ER/hospital. at urgent care, i was told that i have a obstruction in my bile duct and that my liver was severely inflamed and close to failing. i've never had any health issues so this was a shock and beyond scary to hear.
at the ER doctors confirmed i had a large gallstone. they removed it with a procedure called an ERCP. then the next day i had surgery to remove my gallbladder altogether. the surgery went well thankfully.
i’m asking for some help to cover:
- some help with this months rent especially since i live alone. the recovery time post op is 1-2 weeks. the doctors said to expect my energy levels to be low for awhile while recovering
- missed work. i don’t have any sick time left bc i had used it during food poisoning symptoms; before learning it was more serious. i work one part time job in food service and a seasonal teaching position. i tend to work 3+ jobs to make ends meet but encouraged myself to take it easy this year; not expecting a hospital visit
- trying not to dwell on it too much, but hospital expenses. i'm waiting to hear back about what my insurance will cover but we all know the country we live in...
- minor car repair and my car insurance payment this month. once recovered, i'd like to get back on the road which will help with getting to work, running errands, laundry, and overall life quality.
symptoms as a PSA bc i haven’t had any health issues historically:
- very similar to food poisoning initially with a fever, chills, bloating, and vomiting but i noticed the bloating wouldn’t go down and the pain was radiating more to my back with sharp pains in my upper right abdomen. they would fluctuate from mildly discomforting to debilitating and to the point of tears; unable to stand/walk for very long. when i was in the ER my pain level was 8/10
- i had jaundice in my eyes, which was hard to see bc of my skin tone. i use ambient/colored lighting at home so it was not apparent until nurses pointed it out to me. so please be careful with vibe-y home lighting and turn on the brights regularly to check your health
- fatigue/weakness and difficulty carrying light amounts. initially it was hard to carry a tote bag and one light bag of groceries. the next day i could barely handle the tote bag alone, had to take multiple breaks walking home (~0.5 mile)
- so much nausea and vomiting. having an empty stomach hurt a lot. i couldn't keep any food or liquids down for days. even the mildest foods like unsweetened cheerios and applesauce
i'm very thankful to be okay! and i'm grateful that i listened to friends who encouraged me to get things checked out.
i put the goal at 2k as a rough estimate as i’m still getting a gauge for hospital bills/ insurance. i probably will keep this til the end of the month just in case.
i know money is tight for everyone rn as many of us live paycheck to paycheck but i appreciate any help!
thanks so much ❤️
tia
