Support Tiara & Chris After Heart Transplant

Chris was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure in 2019. The LVAD was placed because they didn't think he had time to wait for a heart. Unfortunately, in March of 2024 Chris suffered a brain bleed (hemorrhagic stroke), requiring brain surgery (craniotomy) that left him handicapped. He initially lost the use of his right side, the ability to walk, talk, read, eat, etc. All of that while still needing a heart and fighting an infection. The bacteria causing the infection was attached to the device, so the only way to rid his body of the infection was to remove the device. Medical staff was not very hopeful that Chris would recover. Chris spent months in the hospital and rehab. Of course, with this medical event, Chris was no longer eligible to receive a heart.

However, with a lot of faith, determination, extremely hard work, and support, Chris fought his way back to being strong enough to be placed back on the national transplant list. Which has resulted in him having a heart transplant surgery on Feb, 18, 2026.

Tiara has been Chris soul caregiver. When Chris first came home, Tiara administered meds, fed, bathed, dressed, and did just about everything for Chris. She never got an aide, or any assistance from any agencies. Tiara has become trained in everything needed for his care. Procedures such as his PICC Line (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter), keeping his drive line sterilized, and wound care, Tiara has also transported and accompanied Chris to every appointment. They are as follows, occupational, speech, and physical therapy, cardiology, bloodwork clinic, pain management, and neurology appointments. She has done this while continuing to work and take care of their two daughters. One graduating from trade school, the other from high school and enrolling at VSU during this time.

While most would think the successful heart transplant would be the end of the issues, it is important to say the expense created by this surgery is massive. The next few years can cost between 100 and 200 thousand dollars to cover hospital bills, medicine, etc. including days off for those who are needed to stay home to monitor Chris.

Friends and family, Tiara has given everything to make sure Chris made it this far. Even though times are tough for everyone, we’re asking for any support you can give so that her sacrifices are not in vain. The road to recovery after a transplant is long and expensive, and your help will make a real difference. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
