Support Tia on her journey to conquer brain tumor
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Heather Deris, and I am fundraising for Tia Skye Harris, who just got diagnosed with a Brain Tumor. Tia is a 17-year-old adolescent, and I have had the pleasure of knowing her since 2011.
My family owns a music school in North Vancouver called Ava Music & Art Centre Ltd. Since 2011, Tia and her sister started taking lessons at Ava Music. A few years back, Tia began to volunteer for us at the age of 13. She soon developed such skills and talent for teaching that we started a teacher training program with her. During this process, all her students very quickly fell for her kindness, attention to detail, caring love for children, and strengths and abilities. To the point that only within one year, over 18 students signed up to have lessons with her both in Guitar and Orff classes. In addition, she is always there to support the students in one way or another, either leading a summer camp, hosting a year-end concert, or simply being a friendly face greeting the customers walking into the school.
On a very sad Thursday in April 2022, we received a phone call from Tia's mom that she got diagnosed with a brain tumor, and soon after, they found a second tumor in her spine. During the last few weeks, we all have been devastated by this unfortunate news, and we are asking for your help and support to help our friend, colleague, and team member to overcome this terrible news.
Tia’s medical team immediately started an aggressive course of treatment. Over the past few weeks, Tia has been hospitalized in Children's Hospital as her team has been working to determine a treatment that will best suit her conditions.
She has been under long hours of surgery this week, and now she must start her chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Thankfully, there are promising courses of treatment, although they are all located in Seattle. And we were hoping you could support us to raise enough money to cover this out of country expenses.
Despite the unfortunate news, we are incredibly grateful for all the support and encouraging messages that her family and we have received! We are truly blessed to have such a great support system to help Tia through this journey. We hope with your help and support, we will be able to see Tia come back to us healthy and happy again.
