Update: It is with heavy heart that we inform you that Chris passed away on November 7, 9:25 pm at the age of 33. He was surrounded by his family as he peacefully embarked on his final journey to join our Lord. This world has lost a beautiful soul and heaven gained an angel. Thank you for taking us to all your adventures Chris, may you rest in peace.
The proceeds of this fundraising will go to his medical bills, funeral services, and legal proceedings. Thank you once again for your continued support.
This past Monday (November 2, 2020), Christopher Jones Roldan suffered a severe anaphylaxis reaction after unknowingly consuming food that contained his number one enemy: walnuts. Chris double checked with the restaurant to make sure it did not contain nuts, and he was erroneously assured by staff that it did not and sadly it is costing him his life. He was brought to High Desert ER where he was intubated and was finally airlifted to Desert Regional for higher level of care. His throat swelled so much that his brain did not receive the vital oxygen that it needs causing severe damage that up to now, he remains in coma and in life support (tubes that are breathing for him and medications that are keeping his vital organs perfused).
Chris is currently hospitalized at the Neuroscience ICU in Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs. His family drives over 80 miles everyday to see him, that cost and his hospital costs are mounting. They were told by his insurance company that they will only cover a certain part of his bill (60%). At the end of this month, his insurance coverage will end, further causing stress to his family. We are organizing this fundraising to help upset the costs for the family - medical costs and litigation costs (and now for the funeral services as well).
We all love Chris because of his fierce spirit and his intense passion for traveling, his joie de vivre. For those of us who knows Chris, his adventurous personality is incomparable. At 33, he's been traveling the world (mostly solo), which started as soon as he finished college. He loved France so much that he lived there for a certain period of time to teach French kids the English language. He is fluent in French, a wine enthusiast, an avid hiker, a talented photographer, and most recently, a mountain biker.
We first met Chris as a volunteer in our Emergency department. Even then, we saw something special in his little kid. We encouraged him to pursue his dreams in the medical field. First, he received his certification as an EMT and worked with us at Queen of the Valley ER for over 6 years. He's known for his big and infectious smile, amiable personality, caring nature, and his deep desire to travel the world.
Knowing he's destined for big things, Chris enrolled in the nursing program. Barely a month ago, he passed his nursing board exams and we've never seen him so happy. He plans on pursuing his masters next year and become a nurse practitioner. About 2 weeks ago, Chris left our Queen of the Valley family to pursue his dream as an Emergency nurse in San Dimas Hospital and ICU nurse in Garfield. He's always there to lend a hand, tirelessly helping the nurses and doctors, and going above and beyond his duties in order to serve the community. And now, he's the one who needs our help.
God is our refuge and strength and only He has the power to cure Chris. This money won't help cure him, but we can help ease the financial burden and reluctant stress that his family is facing. We understand that in these trying times, some of you are unable to help financially. We ask that you continue to pray for Chris' and his family's well being. Thank you so much.
