Support this amazingly generous and selfless human!

Spoiler alert: This story has a happy ending—but it didn’t start that way.

A few weeks ago, this sweet pup was spotted wandering through a neighborhood in Ford’s Colony, Williamsburg. He had been out in the extreme heat for days—injured, bloody, filthy, and clearly dehydrated and starving.

Several people, including staff from Jolly Pond Veterinary Hospital and myself, searched for him. When he was finally found, Animal Control rushed him to the emergency vet. The diagnosis was heartbreaking: he was likely hit by a car (he had a severe limp), attacked by another animal (possibly a coyote), dangerously dehydrated, and starving. X-rays revealed his leg was not broken, but he had a severe blockage in his rectum—likely caused by animal bones or rocks he’d eaten in desperation to survive.

Surgery was the only option to save his life. It was risky and expensive, with no guarantee he’d make it. But one incredible Animal Control officer didn’t hesitate—she paid $800 out of her own pocket to give him a chance. Without this surgery, the dog would have died a very painful death.

She never made a big deal about what she did for this pup. I only found out later, and I couldn’t let her selfless act go unnoticed.

So I’m raising $800 to reimburse this amazing human for what she did for this dog. Oaf (yes, that’s his name!) survived the surgery and is well on his way to a much better life.

I’ve set a goal of $850 to cover the officer’s costs and GoFundMe platform fees.

If everyone who follows the Humane Society, supports local rescues, or lives in the neighborhood where Oaf was found gave just $5, we’d hit our goal in no time.
