Hi Everyone,
My name is Afrid and I am reaching out to you in behalf of our friend Therese (Tracy) Tice who is one of the most talented artist’s and beautiful friend I have ever met.
As you all know Therese underwent and recovered from ankle replacement surgery 3 years ago which despite of everybody’s wonderful help meant a huge financial setback.
However, we know Therese as a hard working woman who is not afraid of long hours in her studio or work shop and 3 years later she felt she was getting on top of her world again.
Therese is doing many local art shows in Sedona and was accepted into juried shows in other parts of Arizona.
Around Christmas time 2023 she came down with a debilitating case of severe shingles that lasted for more than 3 months and had her confined to her bed. She had a difficult time walking and sitting and depended on medication for topical and internal nerve pain to keep her going through this scary time.
She was unable to produce anything in this period which normally would have been her “off-season-main-production-time”. She also had to cancel some major spring shows. By April 2024 Therese was finally able to move around, make art again to get ahead of production and slowly started selling again.
On June 8 she was getting ready for one of her biggest shows of the year when she decided to take her scooter to the art supply store just down the road and had a freak accident.
Trying to brake her fall she dislocated her leg, tore the ligament on her left thumb, injured her right elbow and had multiple breaks on her tibia and fibula below her right knee.
She was transported to Flagstaff for her first exterior fixation surgery to straighten her leg, followed by a 2nd surgery a few days later to put pins and plates into her leg to fix the broken bones. Pain has been a huge factor and the meds sure has made it even more difficult to navigate her situation at large.
The prognosis is a slow recovery. She won’t be able to put any weight on her leg until at least September when she finally will be able to do more intensive physical therapy on that leg.
Therese has been in a rehab facility in Sedona. She has been training hard to strengthen her core and learned how to use an extended leg rest wheelchair and platform walker, getting from the wheelchair in and out of bed and use the toilet by herself. She is hindered by her injured left hand and won’t be able to do the simplest things for another couple of months.
At this point Therese says that she is not sure when she will be back in the game and what the near future will bring as she has a lot of healing to do.
Due to her hard work with the physical therapists, Therese will be released from the rehab this Friday! However, she will need major help in and around the house, extensive therapy sessions, in-home care, and adjustments to her house to accommodate her mobility restrictions. She won’t be able to work for quite a while to bring in much needed funds. Meanwhile her monthly expenses are ballooning, her resources are depleted and the co-pay for her medical bills are starting to pile up with no relief in sight.
That’s where we/us, her friends come in!
Therese needs our help!
