Can you help us raise $2500 to make our 2026 season a reality?

Started in 2018, Theatre Contra has strived to create low-stakes, high-fun theatre that audiences of all types can enjoy - theatre that acts as an escape from the wild world we live in, while also being a space that brings joy.

In 2024, we were chosen by Philly Magazine as part of their "Best of Philly" series, specifically recognizing our reading series, which takes movie classics and parodies them, highlighting their highs and lows while also adding our own modern-day commentary since...well, a lot of our favorite movies have NOT aged well.

Over the past 7 years, we've produced over 40 readings, 2 full productions, including an immersive piece in collaboration with A Novel Idea on Passyunk, a mystery podcast, 4 enhanced readings that take what you know and love and add a unique twist, and most recently, an interactive murder mystery.

We can't wait to share what we have in store for 2026. We have our BIGGEST season yet on the horizon with 14 movie readings and several enhanced readings in venues throughout Philadelphia. However, to make this a reality, we could use your help...

We do not often hold fundraisers - we only like to do so when we deem it necessary to continue doing what we do at the caliber we want for our audiences. Our initial goal is $2500 - this covers the costs of most of our movie readings in 2026, which would allow any funds raised from those to go towards supporting our organization, larger productions, and our continued growth beyond just next year!

If we reach our initial goal, anything beyond that will go towards creating our new projects, such as community events, immersive game nights, a very special movie-reading podcast, and more! There's so much we want to do, and with your help, it could be a reality!

Theatre is nothing without an audience, and for that, we are so deeply thankful. Getting to know those who attend our readings is one of the most rewarding parts, and we are truly ecstatic to show you what's next.

Thank you for reading this far! You win a gold star!
