Hey folks, I found this decision to be a remarkably difficult one. Wanting to help and being too proud to ask for any is a tough place to fight through. I hate that financial crisis after a heartbreaking, scary event is a very real possibility. Despite insurance...medical bills, missing work days to care for a loved one, gas prices and feeding yourself come with a high tab during an emergency like the one the Reiver/Weaver family is currently navigating through.

Ayden Reiver was in a serious car accident on his way to school on Wednesday, December 1st. He has been at Norfolk General since then, battling multiple injuries while his parents have been monitoring him at an arm's length since the moment he arrived. Those injuries include a torn diaphragm, multiple fractures in face and pelvis, and brain bleeds. He has undergone two surgeries, continues to have scans and is still in a medically induced coma.

At a time of year when families are working through the holiday season (and all year) to provide a warm and loving Christmas, Kevin, Chasity and Andrew have been exhaustingly present up at Sentara General and making extra trips between Norfolk and Elizabeth City. My only hope is to provide SOME kind of financial relief as they miss work, increase the mileage on their cars, and prepare for the coming days of medical bills and more missed work days to care for their son...all while preparing for a Christmas filled with gratitude and family.

I have set a small monetary goal, because I understand that everyone at this time of year is managing finances, and to even request it, seems so...inconsiderate. As you know, any amount over this chosen goal will be used to pay bills, as we all know the high price of medical expenses. I hope you know that any support, despite the amount, will fulfill a need and will be a reminder that people are cheering for this family and Ayden's recovery.
