Support the Worlands' Urgent Housing Need
Donation protected
On October 18th, my dear friend Jessica Worland texted me to ask if I could come stay with her children while she went to prompt care. I said of course, thinking it was something mild. I was surprised to arrive and discover her curled on her bathroom floor with a migraine so intense she compared it to labor pains. Her husband, Chris, took her to urgent care where they were sent to the hospital.
Fast forward a little over a month, two hospital stays, multiple invasive tests, several conversations with neurology that brought no answers, and then one world-shattering discovery - their basement was full of black mold and asbestos. The asbestos was somehow missed in their inspection before buying their dream home several years ago, but the mold is a mystery - they did a deep mold inspection before purchasing the home that came up clean. Their prior home had also had black mold, so they were very cautious with this home purchase, making this discovery even more devastating.
Until the remediation is finished, they cannot live in their home. It has made them all incredibly very ill, Jessica the worst of all. They have an immediate need of $5,000 to cover the cost of staying in a hotel or Airbnb until their home is safe. Insurance won't cover the cost of emergency housing and deep cleaning their home after remediation.
The Worlands are a precious family; to know them is to fall in love with them. They have opened their hearts and their home to foster children for many years and now are working towards adopting two beautiful little boys and moving forward as a family of six. Discovering that their beautiful home is not safe to live in has been a devastating - and wildly expensive - blow. The repairs needed to make their home inhabitable will be well over $30,000. Our current goal is to cover the immediate need of safe housing and then we'll look towards the ongoing cost of repairs. Thank you for your time and consideration; anything you can give will make an amazing difference. <3
