We are Reese and Julia Wood.
On February 13th, we were in a bad car accident. On our way home from a school function “ parkview jr/high “ for our daughter, a drunk driver ran a stop sign and forever altered our lives. My work vehicle was totaled and as a small business owner, my work vehicle was a huge part of my ability to do my job. Our daughter received injuries that left us driving to doctor's appointments multiple times a week in and out of town up until May 7th. My wife suffered injuries to her right shoulder and right knee and had to have surgery on her knee on March 26th, followed by weeks of physical therapy. Unfortunately, as a result of everything, my ability to work has been limited. As a result of the accident, I received severe injuries to my left shoulder, arm, and wrist. I have a left radial styloid fracture of my left wrist, which has made it hard to grip things. And as a carpenter, I need my hands and wrists to be able to do my job. I had a complete full-thickness tear of the superior rotator cuff tendon involving both the supraspinatus and infraspinatus components with central retraction of the musculotendinous junction with a secondary superior migration of the humeral head with loss of the subacromial space. My bicep tendon had a full thickening and increased T2 signal in the intra-articular preinsertional segment of the long head bicep tendons. On May 16th, I had surgery on my left shoulder and bicep. Unfortunately, my injuries were more severe than the doctor initially thought, and he had to do much more to repair my injuries, which has now left me unable to drive till I'm out of my sling, so 6 weeks at minimum, and unable to work for 4 months at minimum. I am unable to start physical therapy for at least 6 weeks and will be in my full arm sling and brace full time, even while I am sleeping, till I begin physical therapy.
Now our struggles are going to become harder with no income coming in for at least 4 months. It truly is hard for us to ask for help but we have realized we do not have a choice. Not knowing how we are even gonna pay rent or pay for gas to get us to and from appointments and even groceries are just the first few major worries that come to mind.
We truly do appreciate any help at all. We never imagined our lives would be so altered in just a few seconds. We have stayed strong emotionally and mentally and physically for as long as we could but we will be honest it has become harder these past few days.
