On January 5th, The Westbrooks welcomed their newest addition via emergency c-section in Phoenix. Prior to the c-section, Baby Bob was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, fluid was found in his lungs, and he was given a 50% chance of survival. Following his birth, Baby Bob spent 31 days hospitalized in the NICU, needing oxygen and to be tube-fed. The family spent 18 days in Phoenix, and then finally got to come home when the baby was transferred via helicopter to Flagstaff Medical Center. As you can imagine, even with insurance, the medical bills are insurmountable. In addition to paying for the hospital stay, raising a medically fragile child comes with a lot of unexpected costs. Baby Bob needs full time care, which means Brenna is unable to return to work. Due to his medical needs, no daycares are equipped to care for him. Advocates for the baby have cautioned Brenna and Bob that government assistance is unlikely to be approved any time soon, so the family needs help in the meantime. Donations will be used for weekly specialist visit copays (feeding therapy, weight checks, PT and OT, Cardiology followups for the hole in his heart, etc), feeding supplies, medical bills, and household bills as Brenna is unable to return to work for the foreseeable future.
