WESS 90.3FM is a student operated, non-commercial educational radio station that serves the East Stroudsburg University campus and surrounding areas by broadcasting a wide range of programming that attracts a diverse population. Local news is provided through our student produced News Briefs along with weather and traffic reports and educational programming is provided by the BBC. Additional student produced programs focus on local sports from ESU and the Philadelphia area. WESS 90.3FM provides an important service by broadcasting emergency alerts including weather, Amber alerts, and important police broadcasts. Students who are involved in WESS can host their own programs (rock, alternative, country, and other genres including, talk, sports, celebrity shows and student roundtables).
In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in the organization and broadcasting of live concerts and events (both on campus and in the community) and serve in leadership positions managing the station. WESS 90.3FM is used alongside classroom instruction in several courses in the BA in Communications Broadcasting track including: radio practicum, broadcast journalism, and voice for broadcasting. Participants in WESS gain practical experience in broadcasting, create materials for their portfolios, and learn valuable leadership and teamwork skills to prepare students for their future careers in broadcasting.
