Support the Walsh Family During Nathan's Medical Recovery

As a group of Bryan’s, Trina’s and Nathan’s friends, co-workers and supporters, we are reaching out to you today to share some news regarding Nathan’s recent health challenges and ask for your support during this difficult time.

Nathan has recently faced some unexpected and severe respiratory health challenges related to double pneumonia that resulted in him being admitted to the Janeway for emergency care two weeks ago. After multiple assessments, Nathan was diagnosed with fungal pneumonia and his health condition deteriorated to the point that he was moved to the Janeway ICU last week. Not seeing any improvement with his ‘lung health’ a decision was made to put him on an urgent medivac to the IWK Health Centre in Halifax late Saturday night so he could be at a facility that could provide emergency ECMO treatment if required to help his lungs. Bryan and Trina flew to Halifax first thing Sunday to be closer to Nathan as they continue this fight to help Nathan regain his health and return home.

Nathan is currently receiving specialized care at the IWK and, while the medical team is doing everything possible, the road to recovery will be long and the current situation has understandably brought a significant emotional and financial burden to the Walsh family. As we all know, dealing with a child’s medical emergency involves not only the direct medical costs but also travel expenses, accommodation, lost wages, and other unforeseen expenses. Bryan and Trina have 2 other children that are at home in NL being tended to by other family members, so that simply adds to the emotional burden this is having on the family. Our wish is for Nathan to recover so the family can be together or, if required, we can send the other children to Halifax to be with Nathan.

Bryan and Trina are dedicated and hardworking people and always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. They have given so much to the Candlelighters NL, as Nathan is also a Childhood Cancer survivor, as well as to other organizations the children are involved with. Now, it’s our turn to support the Walsh family during this incredibly difficult time. We have set up this GoFundMe campaign to help alleviate some of the financial stress on the Walsh family, allowing them to focus on what truly matters - Nathan’s recovery and well-being.
