For my third self-made show at the Becket Arts Center, on January 30th, 2026, I will be presenting a hilarious and totally off the wall "symposium," lead my my quack self-help guru character, Dr. Jörg Malmquist, entitled, "Dr. Jörg's Symposium on Romantic Love and Sexual Fulfillment." Dr. Jörg will be joined by a slate of experts, performed by myself and a troupe of special guests.
It's important to me that this event, which makes use of the most outlandish aspects of my creativity, is beautifully captured on a multi-camera video shoot. The past two shows I've done at Becket in 2023 and 2024 were not adequately documented, and so all that work and all the laughter it earned lives on only in memory. That's kind of a shame.
I have engaged a provisional videographer from nearby Pittsfield who is totally onboard with the zany quality of what I am trying to achieve in this Symposium. It's important to me that the video feels as a live as the event, and should have the gloss of an informercial made for television, not just a static capture of a live show. This will cost $1500 to video and an addition $500 to edit. (And this is the artist discount rate!)
I should come away with something that can be posted online. Not only will a larger audience be able to enjoy the show, but I will have something to show for my work (and the contributions of my guest performers) and I can further develop my ideas, taking concepts like this to bigger and bigger stages.
The Becket Arts Center is a small operation and I don't make much of a fee from doing a show there, but that's not what it's about. I jump at the opportunity to use their open invitation and receptive audience to explore my comedy and develop a full-length evening. With this in mind I thought I would solicit contributions to help cover the cost of the professional video shoot. Thank you for considering making a contribution toward this effort! It's an 'anything helps' situation!
