Robert "Bob" Vester was a dedicated Detective for the East Peoria Police Department, known for his unwavering commitment to his community, his colleagues, and his friends. Most importantly, he was a loving husband to Kayla and a devoted father to their two sons, ages 10 and 8. Following a sudden cardiac incident on April 18, 2026, Bob passed away on April 22. While Bob spent 20 years serving and protecting others, he was tragically not yet vested in either of the pension systems he contributed to. As a result, Kayla is unable to collect any ongoing pension survivor benefits, leaving the family in a precarious financial position during this heartbreaking time.
Bob’s passing has left a profound void. Known for his generous spirit, he never shied away from helping a friend or a stranger, meeting everyone with kindness and empathy. He prided himself on his fierce love for his family, always putting their needs ahead of his own.
Bob’s distinguished career in law enforcement began in 2006. He served as a corrections officer, a Marshall County Deputy, and a celebrated K-9 handler with his partner, "Flitz." In 2017, he joined the East Peoria Police Department, where he continued an award-winning career as a Field Training Officer, Mentor, Peer Support Officer, and Detective. His excellence was recognized through four Letters of Commendation and two Meritorious Service Awards.
The funds raised through this campaign will provide essential stability for Kayla and the boys and ease the immediate financial burden following this tragedy.
Your support means the world to the Vester family. Whether you can donate or simply share a memory of Bob, your kindness helps them find strength and hope. Thank you for standing with the Vester family as they honor Bob’s legacy and move forward together.
