Friends and extended family are coming together to organize this fundraiser for the Verret Family of Houma, Louisiana, following an unimaginable act of violence that has forever changed their lives. On September 12, 2026, Verna Mae Verdin, Letha Verret, and Paul Verret were tragically and fatally attacked in their home. Letha’s 6-year-old grandson was also attacked. Despite his injuries, he was able to escape and get help. He is currently in critical condition at a local hospital, where he continues to fight for his life. This devastating tragedy has left the Verret family facing an unimaginable amount of grief, uncertainty, and hardship. The loss is especially profound for Letha’s minor children, who are now having to cope with the sudden loss of their mother, grandmother, and uncle all at once.
In addition to grieving their loved ones, the family is now faced with the difficult reality of navigating medical care, funeral arrangements, childcare, living expenses, counseling, and the many other challenges that follow such a sudden and traumatic loss. The funds raised through this GoFundMe will be used to help the family with funeral and burial expenses for their loved ones, medical care and related expenses for Letha’s grandson, and the ongoing needs of Letha’s minor children. Donations will also help provide access to counseling, emotional support, and other necessary services as the family begins the long process of healing from this profound trauma.
Because the needs of this family will extend well beyond the immediate aftermath of this tragedy, recurring donations can provide especially meaningful and dependable support in the weeks and months ahead. Ongoing support can help with medical expenses, care and necessities for the children, counseling, housing and household expenses, transportation, and other unforeseen costs that may arise as the family works to rebuild their lives. One-time donations are also deeply appreciated and can provide immediate assistance during this incredibly difficult time. No contribution is too small, and every donation, share, message of support, and prayer can make a difference. Houma is a community that has always understood the importance of coming together for its neighbors during times of need. Right now, the Verret family needs that love, compassion, and support more than ever. Please consider donating if you are able, sharing this fundraiser with others, and keeping the Verret family—and especially Letha’s grandson—as well as all of those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for standing with the Verret family during this devastating time.
