The UNITED Mural Project

A Celebration of Diversity, Community, and Strength in Unity

Painter John Gascot and photographer Laurie Meehan-Elmer believe that diversity is the heartbeat of strong communities. As owners of Studios @ 5663, home to a once-vibrant mural now fading with time, they saw an opportunity to breathe new life into both the wall and the spirit of the neighborhood.
In a moment when inclusive public art is disappearing across Florida and beyond, they set their sights on creating something powerful — a mural that brings people together when unity is needed most.
Thus, the UNITED Mural Project was born.
John gathered a dream team of celebrated local artists — Miss Crit, James Hartzell, Alyssa Marie, Zulu Painter, and himself — to collaborate on a large-scale work that celebrates cultural differences and champions strength through solidarity. Each artist will interpret what UNITED means to them by transforming a section (letter in U-N-I-T-E-D) into a unique artistic statement. Together, these letters will form a visual anthem of inclusivity, resilience, and cultural pride.
The finished mural will become a landmark — a destination for all who believe in equality, creativity, and community. It will stand as a lasting symbol of what can be achieved when many voices paint one story.
But murals of this scale require resources. Artists must be compensated, and paints, materials, and equipment come at significant cost. We’re calling on supporters of diversity, art, and community to help bring this vision to life — one that will not only beautify our city but also uplift and unite the people who call it home.
Every dollar counts. Every contribution builds unity.
This project is being conducted in conjunction with Diversity Arts, 501c3. Donations are tax-deductible.
