Meet the Ulutoa family! This family has been challenged with a very unique and complex situation. Tori is pregnant with a rare high-risk pregnancy of mono-mono twins. This specific pregnancy is high-risk because the babies share the same fluid, sac, and placenta. There is no membrane that separates the babies, which puts them at risk of cord entanglement, which could end up in fatality for one or both babies.

Due to these high risks, Tori has to be admitted into the hospital when she is around 26 weeks pregnant (she is currently 25 weeks pregnant). They have two more girls at home, one that is in a full-time early preschool and the other has extensive special needs that prevent her from going to daycare as her needs are too extensive.

Tori had been working with a private one-on-one caregiver for five weeks for their daughter, but due to personal reasons, the caregiver quit with no warning just last week, leaving the family scrambling to find care for their daughter while Tori is admitted into a hospital out of state in just a week.

Finding another caregiver has been difficult, and the family is left with limited choices. One of them being, having Pati (father) take FMLA leave to care for their daughter. He only has about 14 days of paid leave.

Tori’s mother is currently attempting to apply for medical leave as well to help with a couple of days; however, there is no guarantee this will be approved. The family does not have government assistance, as they do not qualify. They are left in a very difficult and challenging position. Pati would have to take leave with no pay (after his paid leave runs out), and the family would be left with no income.

This fund is to help the family stay afloat while Tori is away and Pati is not able to work like he usually does for the family. It will also help cover any extremely expensive medical bills that are piling up due to the very high-risk pregnancy. The twins will be born premature and will require a NICU stay, which will be an even greater financial burden on this family.
