My name is Ravin Shah and like all of you Manny was a dear friend of mine. He was suddenly and tragically taken away from us on September 1, 2021. This fundraiser is to support Lexie and the kids.
Manny dedicated his life to public service and the community. He had a big impact on so many lives and helped so many of us, who were lucky to be his friends, along on our own life journeys.
So please send this far and wide. And if you are able, please give what you can.
A little background on Manny (apologies if some of this is inaccurate, I am going from memory):
A native of Nigeria, Manny emigrated to Rhode Island/New England as a teenager and in 2002 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served honorably with the USMC (and deployed to Iraq for 3 tours) until 2013 when he separated honorably at the rank of Sergeant.
In 2009, Manny enrolled in law school at St. John's University, where he focused intensely on becoming a prosecutor. He accomplished that goal upon graduating and passing the NYS Bar Exam, when he joined the Bronx District Attorney's Office in NYC in 2012.
In 2016, Manny, Lexie and the family moved up to Buffalo where he joined the Erie County DA's office and in 2018 he was selected to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of NY. In March 2020, Manny, Lexie and the family moved to Minnesota where Manny again served his community as the Assistant County Attorney at the Polk County Attorney's Office.
His life serves as a testament to community service, friendship, fatherhood, and so much more.
