On Thursday, October 30th, the remnants of Hurricane Melissa hit NYC, which led to massive flooding around the city. Our bookstore, The Twisted Spine was hit hard during the storm, with water pouring down from the ceiling in the back of the store.
Over this past weekend, we discovered that the water damage is more widespread than we initially thought and will require us to replace the ceiling in the back of the shop. While these repairs are being conducted, we have no choice but to close the store. The first few years of any small business, especially a bookstore/cafe in NYC, is an incredible challenge, and being forced to pause operations after less than 2 months is devastating for our small team.
We are so grateful to the steadfast community that has supported us on every step of this journey from pop-up to brick and mortar bookstore, and it's been wonderful to discuss all things horror with everyone who has come in for coffee or books over the past couple of months. We promise that we're working as hard as we can to repair the damages and re-open our doors as quickly and safely as we can.
Our independent bookstore wouldn’t function without the help of our amazing team of booksellers, baristas, bartenders, and staff. All money raised through this fundraiser will go towards the cost of repairs not covered by insurance, and paying employees while the store is closed.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer, we can't wait to share more devilishly good times together when we welcome you back through the doors of The Twisted Spine!
