Scheduled for April 3-4, 2025 during the conference, this unique competition challenges participants to blend creativity with science as they design and build hats that block radio frequency (RF) noise. What Is the Tinfoil Hat Competition?

The competition is divided into three exciting categories:

Classic: Contestants will use only tin or aluminum foil—either provided or brought by the participant—to craft a hat. Each creation is placed on a mannequin bust and tested against a baseline to see how effectively it blocks ambient RF noise. The hat with the most overall attenuation wins.

Hybrid: In this category, participants combine mostly tin/aluminum foil with any other materials of their choice. The hats will be tested in a similar manner to gauge their RF-blocking performance, with scores kept separate from the Classic round.

Style: Beyond functionality, creativity matters. All entrants from the Classic and Hybrid rounds are also judged on the design and flair of their hats. The most stylish hat will win an additional prize!
