About the Therapy Scholarship Fund
Thanks for stopping by, y'all! I'm Okichie, a queer, Black woman (they/them) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Philadelphia, PA. I started my private therapy practice, Endeavoring Wellness, in 2020 to create space for trauma-informed, compassionate mental health care and wellness support for marginalized persons. My practice centers Black folks, and non-Black folks of color, and affirms gender non-conforming individuals and persons of trans experience, as well as queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and asexual persons. I also affirm sex workers and individuals practicing alternative relationship styles such as non-monogamy, polyamory, and BDSM. Many of my clients are middle- to low-income, uninsured or under-insured, and use grants to cover the cost of their services.
The Therapy Scholarship Fund is foundational to my practice and one of the most important aspects of my work. The Therapy Scholarship Fund offsets the cost of therapy for my Black queer +/ trans practice clients who have very limited income. The Therapy Scholarship Fund offers ongoing support through guaranteed 1-yr scholarship rates, free sessions for those who work with my practice graduate intern, and pro bono assessments for gender affirming surgery, as well as one-time crisis grants to clients experiencing temporary financial hardship. The fund is supported entirely through community donations. Every donation helps to provide an additional financial support to clients who need it.
Since I started the practice in 2020, the Therapy Scholarship Fund has provided over $3000 in free or reduced cost therapy services to Black queer and trans folks. The last year has been very challenging and the fund is currently down to its last dollars. With the support of the community, I hope to raise $6000 to continue supporting clients through the end of this year and in the upcoming year of 2022. Absolutely NO donation is too small; every single dollar adds up.
