Support the Swann Family After Tragic Loss

The Swann family needs your help.

The unexpected and tragic loss of our dad has rocked all of us, and our mother especially, who already has been suffering from the pain of being in desperate need of two hip replacements and a handful of other health issues needing to be dealt with that she had to put off due to being an independent contractor in an unstable field. Bills are piled high, and death in America isn’t cheap, even for a U.S. Navy veteran. We are doing our best to stay afloat, and our mother has just lost her partner of 31 years.

Dad had been managing and living with an autoimmune disease - myasthenia gravis, and other issues that arose from it - that required a lot of going back and forth to distant hospitals, which had put a great deal of mental, emotional and physical stress on mom, as well as financial with the complications obscuring dad’s vision making it impossible for him to drive, so mom had to take many days off of work as the sole provider to drive him to and from his appointments.
Dad was getting better, though, and stronger from the regular Vyvgart infusions he was receiving and was certain he’d be back to some semblance of normal soon. He of course was also his jovial self, being silly and making embarrassing dad jokes with his strange “i’ve-just-made-a-dad-joke” laugh of AR-AR-AR and an exaggerated wink.
Dad had been his normal self, wiggling his toes in his reclined seat on the couch as normal, when I said goodbye to him on the Friday before Passover started. He said I love you and I’ll see you after Passover.
And then I never saw him again.
We are all grieving, and to make matters worse, it feels like we are drowning under the weight of bills. With no end in sight, we are humbly asking anyone who can help to please donate, so that we can manage making it through the next couple of months without worrying that we won’t have water or the lights on in our house.
We are also trying to raise money to make it possible for us to move to a smaller house to accommodate mom’s limited mobility and to cover moving costs.

The goal is $15,000 to pay for
  • A month’s rent, so we can be given the space to grieve without worrying about late fees or harassment from landlords
  • Bills, like utilities and renewing the registration on mom’s car up to date, as it is a key component in her work as a real estate appraiser, and she typically drives anywhere from 120-250 miles a day roundtrip with the far-flung areas she services.
  • Moving costs, like a truck and movers, so that we can move to a smaller house that is not as difficult for mom to navigate with the constant pain of walking.
  • Funerary costs, specifically for the things that the mortuary does not cover, which isn’t much, past the renting of a space.
