Hi everyone! My name is Michelle Miano, I am the principal of Lutheran Elementary School of Bay Ridge and I am raising money for one of our school's largest fundraiser. All our school fundraisers benefit the students of LES.

Our Annual Walk-A-Thon will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025. This is one of our largest school fundraisers. Tuition alone does not cover the yearly operating budget here at LES and this is why we ask for you and/or your friends and families’ help.

This year, $10,000 of our fundraising efforts from the Walk-A-Thon will be allocated towards our yearly operating budget to cover the extra costs for general supplies, teaching supplies, recess equipment, textbooks/workbooks, classroom furniture, etc. This year we will continue to raise money for the backyard turf. Unfortunately, last year we did not raise enough to cover the cost. My goal is to have the turf installed by the Spring so students can enjoy it and be safe for the remainder of the school year. Anything raised above $10,000 will go towards the safety of our students in the backyard.

We believe outdoor play is very important for a child’s well-being. Students in grades 1-8 play outside for recess every day for 30 minutes and students in preschool and kindergarten play outside for recess twice a day. The help from our families made it possible for us to build the wonderful playhouse that we hope to expand. Now that we have increased the physical education program here at LES, our students are enjoying much more outdoor time. However, even with the utmost precaution, accidents can still happen, and we need help limiting the scrapes and bruises.

The goal, between all our fundraisers for the year, is to raise enough funds to partially cover the yard with high quality artificial turf. Children will inevitably fall from running or tripping; what better way to try and prevent some of these cuts and scrapes? We could use your help and/or the help from your friends/family members to reach our fundraising goal for the Walk-A-Thon to make this possible. Anything above $10,000 will go towards the artificial turf.
