Hello,
My name is Claudia Spence from San Diego, California. We are a military family and my husband's family from Jamaica. I am reaching out for your help.
On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa, a category 5, made landfall in Jamaica, leaving a trail of destruction across the island. One of the hardest hit areas was Darliston, a small town in Westmoreland where my husband’s brother and extended family lives.
Their family home was severely damaged. The hurricane ripped the roof completely off and one side of the house collapsed. Inside, their belongings were destroyed by rain and debris.
This home wasn’t just a place to live, it was also connected to their hardware business and their truck was used to transport sand and stone, which supported their family and others in the community. With the roads damaged and vehicles impacted, their main source of income has come to a halt, leaving them struggling to recover while also trying to rebuild.
Right now, they are doing everything they can: taking in food donations, salvaging materials, and buying tools to start repairs. But despite their efforts, the cost of rebuilding far exceeds what they can manage alone.
To make things even harder, my husband, Lester, is currently deployed overseas and wishes more than anything he could be here to help. From afar, we are doing what we can but we need help during this difficult time.
We are raising funds to help cover:
~ Roofing materials and construction costs
~ Repairs to the damaged side of the house
~ Replacement of essential household items
~ Support to get their hardware business operational again
Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. Please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your compassion, your prayers, and your generosity.
~Claudia
