Help Keep The Songbird Coven Songwriter Series Growing by investing in Ottawa's Music Community!
Welcome to The Songbird Coven!
We need your help to continue supporting local Ottawa independent songwriters and musicians, because we believe that great songs deserve a stage!
Since the beginning, The Songbird Coven has been creating a welcoming space for independent songwriters and underrepresented voices, to share their music, connect with audiences, and build community through live performance.
What started as a passion project has grown into a thriving songwriter series that has:
- Hosted 15+ songwriter rounds and live events (with multiple sold out rooms)
- Featured 45+ talented artists
- Welcomed performers from 24+ communities
- Created opportunities for connection, collaboration, and artistic growth
- Built a supportive environment where independent musicians can share their work and be heard
Along the way, we've helped create meaningful opportunities for emerging and established artists alike while giving audiences an intimate and memorable live music experience in our local music scene.

Now, we're asking for your help to keep this momentum going.
HOW YOUR DONATION WILL HELP
We're raising $2,500 to cover essential upgrades and yearly event costs (we have approx 5 events in a year), improve artist support, and ensure these community events remain accessible and affordable!
Your help will directly support:
- Sound & Gig equipment ($700)- the main focus being a sound board upgrade (we currently rent ours - Yorkville Sound 14 Channel Mixer)
- Updated Signage and event materials ($260) (ex: reusable Banner ($150), laminated table cards ($40), flyers ($20), business cards ($50), etc)
- Marketing and promotion ($500) (ex: in person postering & online ads) approx $100 for each event to expand our reach to larger audiences
- Increased artist honorariums ($600): at least $25 more per artist, 6 artists per show x 4 upcoming shows
- Travel and event logistics ($400)
If we surpass our initial goal, examples of what we would use the extra funds towards:
- Extra Mic stands, mics, cords, cables, and gig essentials to provide artists in case they don’t have their own
- Higher honorarium for the artists
- Save for the shows to come after!
No contribution is too small. Every donation brings us closer to creating more opportunities for artists and more unforgettable experiences for audiences.
WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING
Every Songbird Coven event requires a significant investment of time, energy, and resources. Until now, many of these costs have been covered personally by the organizers because we believe deeply in supporting local artists and creating accessible opportunities for live music.
However, as the series continues to grow, that approach is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain for us.
We're raising $2,500 to help keep the show FREE to attend to all folks, cover essential upgrades and operating costs and improve support for the artists who make these events possible. One of our biggest goals is to increase artist compensation. At present, we are only able to offer performers a modest honorarium of approximately $50 per event. We believe artists deserve better support for the time, talent, preparation, and creativity they bring to our stage, and your donation helps move us closer to that goal.
