Hey friends and caring people,
We're Femi and Cass Sokoya. We live in Madison, WI. After over 2 years of repetitive early miscarriages, we were able to make a match with a brave young mom who chose us to adopt her child. This is a story of amazing providence, but unfortunately, adoptions cost more than most families can easily save, especially on our timeline of two and a half months. We were made aware of this opportunity in early March and baby is due in May.
We are blessed to have been married for 5 years, be part of a loving Christian community (through whom we made the connection), and have two children who also want us to grow our family.
This will be an interstate adoption and has considerable expenses. Funds raised will be spent towards the following:
- Legal Expenses for Both Parties ($5,000 and $10,000-$13,000, ranged based on state law)
- Agency Home Study ($3,580)
- Travel Expenses (2 adults and 2 then 3 children, food, gas, and long term lodging, $8,000)
- Agency Services (birth mother support, inter-state adoption guidance, court appearance, training preparation, acceptance of guardianship, court reports and finalization reports, $5,000-12,000 range based on level of difficulty)
- Uninsured Medical Tests to Assure a Safe Home ($2,500 estimate for 4 family members)
This totals about $37,000. In full transparency, we have already set aside $14,000. We have also looked into the relative speed on invoices and pulling money from different retirement accounts. However, it is difficult to raise this amount in a timely fashion, where we can be fully present, so we appreciate the support. This is both to help us make up the difference and receive the love others may want to share in support of our family.
